West Philly Black History Celebration

Writer: MotivatedMotivated

On February 28th, Motivated was honored to be asked to participate in DM Productions' first-ever West Philly Black History Celebration. The event took place at the Philadelphia YMCA at 52nd and Chestnut Street. The event was well organized. There were prizes for the guests and raffles galore. A laptop was won by one of our very own parents. This came just in time since hers was broken and she needed another one for school.

A variety of products and services were on display from vendors throughout the city. The vendors also displayed a black history icon from Philadelphia at their stations. The guest found valuable information on some of Philadelphia's influential people. The students who visited the vendors asked questions, sparking dialogue and a sense of pride.

A few icons that were honored that afternoon were: Hakim's Bookstore, Guion Bluford, Paul Robeson, Ruth Wright Hayre, Katie B. Jackson, Lucien E. Blackwell, and others...

What a wonderful afternoon it was and we are looking forward to next year!
